With this painting I hope to engage the viewer in the interplay between abstract and representational objects. The sky and landscape are clear, but there is upward movement, objects, marks and textures to draw the viewer into discovering a richer story. This painting strives to be fresh and out of the ordinary. Perhaps the clients of Addx will set their sights on the moon and reach for a star.Welcome to the information superhighway built by Addx. Symbolized by the large red-orange “X” as in “Addx” you can see ovals of information travelling unimpeded. Before Addx there was chaos symbolized by the random shapes in the upper half of the painting. There were departments of companies / organizations acting on their own as stovepipes without communicating efficiently, without sharing information – symbolized by the black circles scattered throughout the painting. Then Addx assisted these companies/organizations with their information needs. By streamlining their communications – they united them (large colored rings straddling highway), helped them to communicate more efficiently, improve the accuracy of their information, and analysis. The black and white striped oval symbolizes an organization that Addx is working with – becoming supercharged and ready to join the chain of connected organizations that Addx has assisted. Overall Addx helps take organizations from points of confusion/anxiety (see upside down words at the bottom) to agility and opportunities for boundless growth and prosperity (see organic flower shapes – white ones at top and yellow in the center).Managing information flow in a dynamic, often turbulent landscape can be daunting. It may seem like storm clouds are on the horizon (upper left dark shades of blue) when departments or organizations aren’t communicating/sharing information efficiently and effectively. But with Addx in the picture – symbolized by center blue building and orange “x” in highway interchange – the sun comes out and connections are made between departments and organizations. Storm clouds dissipate and are replaced by pastoral-like calm (foreground)…the kind of calm that comes when information (ovals) is exchanged seamlessly and stovepipes are united (individual rings united in roof of Addx building). These connections improve accuracy of information and analysis and bring wonderful opportunities for growth (blue trees) and expansion (expanse of buildings stretching into background as get closer to Addx building/sun). Whether it’s improving connections in the public or private sector, Addx is here to help. There are many birds flocking about composed of different shapes, sizes, and colors. The brave new worm, emerging from the lower right corner, must be constantly vigilant so not to be consumed by one of these big birds. As Addx emerges, we remain agile yet bold as our time will come to fly amongst the eagles. Emerging, reaching above and beyond, and striving for new heights is what this painting says to me. I worked to achieve a balance of color and composition, while keeping the structure strong, but flowing. The viewer is invited to choose a pathway and navigate the territory. They may see a landscape with trees and buildings, or a cityscape with stovepipes and roads, or their imagination may take them to new spaces not yet explored. I hope this painting is an inspiration toward creativity, opportunity and the spirit to venture out “into the great wide open.Come in for an up close view of the information superhighway built by Addx where each client (symbolized by buildings) is treated as though they are our only client.
